Monday Nap: Star combo to land marathon

The old post-Cheltenham blues were not helped over the weekend by an either/or misstep in the Lincoln and then a reminder yesterday of the perils of luck in running in flat races.

We’ll look to rekindle that Cheltenham magic at Taunton today concentrating on the marathon chase division (1630) that has served us well all winter.

Gold Cup winning owner-trainer-jockey are represented by Theatrical Star.  This veteran has been around the block a few times, but his runner up effort here two weeks ago proves these conditions suit, and the form was boosted massively when the winner followed up with an easy Midlands National win.

Many of the opponents here, including favourite and stablemate Muffins For Tea have much more scope for progress but have no proven form at marathon trips.

We prefer the tried and tested, and Theatriccl Star looks a little overpriced considering he has Richard Johnson’s assistance in the saddle.

Recomendation: Theatrical Star (1630 Taunton), 1pt win, 5/1 generally available
