Tuesday Nap: Grounds for optimism…

More midweek fare but a nice looking card at Hereford looks a likely source of winners.

One potential improver is Breaking Ground (1645).  He has been busy since converting across from point-to-points early last Summer.  He showed pretty much nothing for months, with an opening mark of 99 slowly reducing to just 81 as the string of unremarkable efforts continued.

Then, in the middle of February, he suddenly found some form with a super-impressive smooth win at Wincanton, beating a field of 18 runners, from which the third placed horse, Garrane, has won two subsequent efforts.

He went back to Wincanton in early March looking set for a repeat off this higher mark of 88 and was still cruising at the halfway stage when unluckily unseating Richie McLernon.

Richie will know that was a winning chance gone begging, and this similar track offers a great chance to right that wrong.

Whilst it looks a decent field, co-favourite Jimmy Bell was a little disappointing in his first handicap last time, and Scartare looks more of a danger albeit he has edged up another 4lbs despite not winning at Towcester last time, a stiff track that would be unlike the speed favouring Hereford.

Recommendation:  Breaking Ground (1645 Hereford), 1pt win, 4/1 Ladbroke, Betfair
