Tuesday Yankee: Easter comes early…

The Daily Yankee:

Easter In Paris, (1545 Hereford), 7/2:  With all due respect to the fairer sex, the number of mares converting flat form to hurdles is relatively low, and the conversion to chasing even lower still.  This race is a mares chase, and favourite Mrs Burbidge is a good example having had 16 flat races, 16 hurdles and just 3 chases.  She looks vulnerable at such a short price, whilst Easter in Paris is a rare example of a chasing mare with 22 (including point to points) of 31 races over fences.  She won this race last year, and is 4lbs lower than that mark.  A return to a right handed track should help and she can defeat her less chasing-disposed rivals.

Breaking Ground, (1645 Hereford), 4/1:  This is a competitive little handicap hurdle, but Richie McLernon’s mount remains a potential improver having had a quiet first few runs this season before smoothly landing a Wincanton handicap where a two-time subsequent winner was back in third.  Returned to Wincanton last time off this 7lb higher mark he was still cruising when unseating Richie just after halfway.  That leaves a score to settle, and this track would be similar to Wincanton giving hope that he can reproduce his best, in which case he still looks to have another 7lbs in hand.

Sackett, (1715 Hereford), 15/8:  A lightly raced contender for trainer Neal King, he finished last season with a good second but looked out of form at the start of this season until a 3rd at Huntingdon and a 2nd here last time.  He was a long way in front of the third that day, and although 8lbs higher there aren’t many in this field that look capable of preventing the old Ted Rogers form…3-2-1.

Powerful Society, (1700 Southwell), 4/1:  Likely favourite Romantic has plenty to prove having a first taste of the marmite surface here at the age of 9.  Powerful Society has far less to prove having been a fair 2nd here last week.  A quirk of the handicapping system means he gets to run off a 4lb lower mark today, and the additional and useful 5lb claim of Nicola Currie makes that an effective 9lb reduction.  That should make him very competitive, and he can make his Southwell experience tell.
