Wednesday Nap: Awesome chance…

Yesterday’s nap again showed the peril of the ground at this curious stage in the weather, with Hereford’s officially soft ground riding like a gluepot.  Our nap Breaking Ground came from last through to take it up over the second last in winning fashion, but couldn’t get home in the muck.

We’ll avoid such concerns today by reverting to the all weather.  Wolverhampton is a love-hate track for us, but we can’t resist the rock solid claims of Awesome Allan in today’s opener (1420).

This horse has been busy with 11 all -weather runs since mid November, placing in seven but winning none.  With his mark today of 67 equal to the highest during that period his chance doesn’t look to jump off the page.

The key though could be opposition, the jockey, and the draw.  First the opposition, which is class 6 rather than the class 4 crowd he ran against last time, and its a poor class 6, with a threat like Berlios being even harder to win with.

Jockey Silvestre de Sousa has built champion jockey campaigns on targeting getting on winners at smaller meetings, and he rode Allan for the first time since an early 2yo run when they were narrowly beaten here on Saturday.  He will have made sure he got the ride again today, and will be gunning to make amends now that he has had that getting-to-know-you run.

Finally he has a peach of a daw in stall 2.  His last two Redcar wins cam from a position just behind the leaders, and this stall should allow SdS to bounce him out and sit just behind the pacesetter (probably Strategic Heights).

Recommendation:  Awesome Allan, (1420 Wolverhampton), 1pt win, 9/4 generally available
