Saturday Nap: Get thunderstruck with acey DC

Tricky racing with such competitive fields at Haydock, but some exciting top quality flat racing over in Dubai.

We have done our money before following Aidan O’Brien’s habitually frustrating Washington DC, but we can’t help going in one more time.

He travelled to this race last year, but a race-day downpour would not have been in his favour although he still ran well in 7th.  That at least proved his ability to act at Meydan, and to be fully fit for seasonal debut.

After that he ran a mixed season, often unlucky in running, able to dominate lesser Irish races, but looking held at the top level.

Our view is that he is capable of winning at Group 1 standard, it will just be on the day that everything falls right for him.  At the odds, there may be enough of those ingredients here to warrant a reasonable bet.

First time out, quick ground and a strong pace, and the assistance of Ryan Moore all look essential ingredients to a Washington DC best-hoof-forward display and he looks likely to get all of that here.

Favourite Blue Point is definitely a tough nut to crack, but after that there is very little to fear in the rest of this field, and the odds are more than enough to compensate for taking on a hotpot.

Recommendation:  Washington DC, (1505 Meydan), 1pt each way, 22/1 William Hill
