Wednesday Nap: Watch the Birdie….

Only last week, the Mark Usher trained Bird For Life lost a recent course and distance verdict courtesy of a reassessment of a tight photo finish.

The mare had been showing steadily improving form at the track but was still expected to play second fiddle to hot favourite Oregon Gift.  Indeed the two pulled well clear in a titanic struggle, and although given the verdict on the night, she was adjudged subsequently to have been just shaded out.

A 3lb rise for that effort looks more than fair given the significant gap back to the rest, and Usher’s mare looks well set to get compensation under regular pilot Ryan Tate.

There is nothing of the form of Oregon Gift in this line up.  Wally’s Wisdom may be a threat of rediscovering his form of two runs ago, but he was nearly 15l behind the selection last time.

Hong Kong Joe ran a personal best last time, but is still 0 from 27 in lifetime runs, and even that improved effort was just a fair 3rd of 8 in a pretty weak contest.

The rest look poor, although the Ian Williams trained hurdler Xhale is one to be wary of if there is substantial market support.

This race could almost have been staged by the BHB to compensate for the embarrassment of that erroneous photo finish call, and Bird For Life should finally get her name in lights.

Recommendation:  Bird For Life, (2045 Kempton), 1pt win, 13/8 generally available
