Wednesday Yankee: The Dirty (quarter) Dozen…

The abandonment of Fairyhouse was inevitable given the overnight deluge, but at least our powder was kept dry, and no better way to invest than in a day of exclusively all-weather flat racing !!

The Daily Yankee:

Monks Stand, (1455 Southwell), 7/4:  Looking to complete a quick fire hat-trick and already has a course and distance win to his name.  Has the assistance of Silvestre de Sousa in the saddle and probably has more room to improve than market rival Angel Palanas.  Indeed, Brockholes could be the bigger danger, but Monks Stand is only 4lbs up from a cosy win here last time under SdS, and that should not be enough to stop him.

Kyllachys Tale, (1525 Southwell), 11/4:  Can complete a quick double for de Sousa.  This one was an improver throughout last season, with form which first came to light in her only run here when a wide margin winner off a mark of 58.  She continued to improve on turf to her new mark of 80.  That may look a daunting 22lbs higher than when winning here, but at that time Southwell was a personal best, and she is bred to love the place, she looks capable of a new PB here again, and that should be enough to prevail.

Vice Marshall, (1815 Kempton), 3/1:  Came good in taking fashion at Lingfield recently.  Raised 6lbs for that, but may find these conditions to his liking and comes here fit and proven. and under the inspired James Doyle.  Favourite Warsaan may be worth taking on with this being a seasonal debut.

Bird For Life, (2045 Kempton), 13/8:  Head the headlines last week when eventually losing a race for which she was originally declared the winner.  A review of the photo-finish went against her, but it shouldn’t be overlooked how good a run that was to force such a close photo.  This doesn’t look as tough a race, and compensation surely awaits.
