Tonight sees the return of the Champions League and the second legs of the quarterfinal matches.
The game we’re focussing on is the all English tie between Manchester City and Liverpool. The first leg at Anfield saw the Reds surprise the champions-elect by winning 3-0, and now comes the response.
City have taken a couple of bumps over the last week, not only losing the first leg but also the Manchester derby at home on Saturday. That said, they remain the best side in the league, and will be buoyed by the knowledge they beat Liverpool 5-0 at the Etihad in the league fixture in September.
City can score for fun – they have already netted 90 times in the league this season – but they have shown defensive weaknesses of late.
The same can be said of the visitors. Liverpool have scored 31 times in the Champions League this season, more than any other side, but don’t rank in the top five in the Premier League defensively.
Liverpool know an away goal tonight would make things very difficult for City, while the home team have to attack. Surely this all adds up to goals!
The bookies have priced in a high scoring game, but we at Lap of the Odds still think there is value to be had.
