It’s a bit of a drop from Aintree to Plumpton, but a nice bet presents itself in the closing bumper (1730).
Baddesley Knight made his bumper debut at Fontwell where he went down in a close three way finish to Court Liability and Solomon Grundy both of whom have progressed into multiple winners since over hurdles.
Baddesley has kept to bumpers and headed next to grade 1 track Newbury where bumpers are often hard to win. Again he ran a blinder, finishing second to a Henderson trained newcomer.
A repeat of either of those two efforts should guarantee he goes close here.
The favourite is Irish Odyssey after a good winning bumper debut. He has to carry a penalty for that win and history tells us that this is usually prohibitive unless the opposition is weak ( not so here) or the winner is a bit special, which is possible but not as likely as the odds suggest.
Another Henderson newcomer, Voyage De Retour completes the main dangers, but a price tag of £25k for an Irish point to point winner is way below the usual asking price so doesn’t immediately suggest a huge threat.
Baddesley deserves a win and has found a winning opportunity, and looks nicely priced.
Recommmendation: Baddesley Knight (1730 Plumpton), 3/1 generally available
