Friday Nap: Cheer a Knightly…

Plenty to look forward to at Punchestown this evening where the Champion Hurdle pits star novice Samcro against Cheltenham Champion Hurdle runner up Melon.  It’s a race where Supasundae looks a little overpriced, but not many seem to have held form from Aintree to here, so we will watch and learn.

Instead we entrust our nap pick to a team who are in flying form.  Trainer Roger  Varian and jockey Andrea Atzeni are red-hot and have a great record at Doncaster.

The team up with lightly raced 3yo Knightly Spirit in the opener (1340).  He showed promise in three 2yo runs including on softer ground.  He is bred to be pretty good, and the handicapper’s first guess of a mark of 74 looks likely to be at least a stone below what this horse could be capable of.

The stable’s horses are usually pretty ready first time out and whilst the field is full of lightly raced types, none can match Knightly for potential.

He should get our day off to a flyer.

Recommendation: Knightly Spirit, (1340 Sandown), 1pt win, 11/4 generally available
