Sunday Nap: Jam so sweet…

Few stables have started the flat season in much better form than Yorkshire based Irishman David O’Meara.

He has a superb record in Northern handicaps and a proven ability to keep finding improvement in his runners.

His fast start to the season should allay any fears when it comes to seasonal debut fitness, and in Hajjam (1625 Wetherby), he has a horse who has already proven he can win first time out last year when a Lingfield success was prelude to a long 3yo campaign.

That season ended on a high when 2nd of 20 at Doncaster to a very well handicapped rival.  This race isn’t remotely in that same league, and with further improvement due entering his 4yo season, Hajjam can land this before heading on to bigger targets.

Of the opposition, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Club Wexford as this Irish import looks particularly well handicapped.  That said, his Irish form suggests he’ll need quicker ground than he has here to be at his best.

Recommendation:  Hajjam, (1625 Wetherby), 2pts win, 11/4 generally available
