PGA Tour: Looking for Italian magic…

The PGA Tour heads to Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo Championship this week, and the majority of the game’s big guns are playing.

The last time this course was used in competition was at the US PGA Championship in August, when Justin Thomas produced some superb golf to triumph. JT must have a chance this week, but we were disappointed with his play last week and he is a short price.

The favourite is Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irish star has an excellent record around this course, winning twice before, but again we think he’s too short to offer value.

We’re going to look at the US PGA for guidance, as the course was altered for the major. While Thomas won, Francisco Molinari was one of three players that finished runner up. While there is no doubt length off the tee is an advantage, Quail Hollow is a tight course and the Italian’s accuracy can pay dividends.

Recommendation: Molinari 0.5 pts each way at 80/1, 1/5 the odds for the first eight places, Paddy Power
