Premier League: Looking for Shaqiri magic…

It’s the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, and the live action Saturday starts at the bet365 Stadium as Stoke entertain Crystal Palace.

The home players are staring relegation in the face. They showed a lot of spirit in drawing at Anfield last weekend but have struggled to win games, in fact they are winless in 12 league fixtures.

Palace, on the other hand, have won their last two home games and have collected 11 points from their last six fixtures. And they have a good record against today’s opponent, winning six of the nine Premier League games between the two.

So Palace should win, but do they have the desire? After all they are basically safe, while Stoke are battling for their Premier League lives.

We prefer to side with teams that have something to play for at this stage of the competition, particularly at home, and will take a punt on Stoke’s Swiss playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri winning the man of the match award.

The second televised game of the day sees Everton host Southampton. This match also features a team lying in mid table security and one in deep trouble.

The Saints achieved a morale-boosting win against Bournemouth last weekend, but they still lie in the relegation zone. That win was their first in nine league games.

Everton have had a difficult season. But they are now going for three league wins in a row for the first time this campaign, having earned 14 points from their last seven games.

We’ll take the home team to prevail, but goals are likely, at both ends!

Recommendation:

Stoke/Crystal Palace: Shaqiri to win man of the match, 1 pt, at 5/1, Paddy Power

Everton/Southampton: Everton to win with both teams scoring, 1 pt, at 5/1, SkyBet
