The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Adamant, (1350 Newmarket), 2pts win, 3/1 generally available
A classic Sir Michael Stoute improver. A 4yo, lightly raced, eyecatching on reappearance and beautifully weighted off a rating of 90 that should allow a win here, another at Royal Ascot and then an Autumn campaign in group company. At least that is the script, and dangerous as it is to oppose anything trained by Charlie Appleby right now, Stoute has the right man in the saddle to start a big day for Ryan Moore.
Mr Lupton, (1455 Newmarket), 5/1: winner of this last year off 107. It took a while to recover that rating by which time the ground was unsuitably soft. Hence started this season off a lower 104, and ran a fine second on soft at Doncaster. Has ideal conditions now, stays on a mark of 104, and has the brilliant Jamie Spencer steering.
Happily, (1535 Newmarket), 9/4: the old adage is that the Guineas is the last big race of the 2yo season. By which it means look no further than 2yo form. So with Saxon Warrior confirming the adage yesterday, and equally confirming the dominance of Aidan O’Brien, Star 2yo filly Happily has to be the pick to land the big one for Aidan and for Ryan Moore who missed out yesterday.
Dukhan, (1720 Newmarket), 9/4: has been raised 6lbs for being touched off here last time. Has to confirm that form with several of these, but he was well clear of the rest that day, and should have enough in hand especially if showing any improvement for the run.
