The European Tour heads to Sicily this week, with the Verdura Golf Course hosting the Rocco Forte Open.
Although not a traditional links course, it is played along the coast of the Mediterranean island, and players traditionally have to combat fresh winds.
Spaniard Alvaro Quiros is the defending champion, having beaten South African Zander Lombard in a playoff 12 months ago.
This event is also where blog favourite Austin Connelly made his breakthrough on the European Tour, finishing just outside the top 30. This will be the first time the Canadian is playing a course he is familiar with, and while he may not be the longest hitter he plays very well in the wind.
With a lot of Europe’s elite competing at the Players Championship in Florida, we think Connelly’s large price represents value, particularly if the breeze blows.
Recommendation: Connelly 0.5 pts each way at 80/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, BetFred
