Cycling Giro: Doctor Pozzovivo to Deliver Winning Tonic

The Giro D’Italia springs to life on Stage 6 with a superb mountain top finish on Mount Etna and we believe the pint sized Domenico Pozzovivo can deliver his famous explosive finish to seal a stage win.

The Bahrain Merida rider has been in splendid form this season and he has started the Giro in excellent fashion with three top 10 finishes in the first five stages.

The last of which was on Wednesday and the most impressive of all as he got detached from the main peleton, due to a chaotic crash, just as the tempo was lifting in the final 15 km.

With assistance from his strong domestiques he got back in the mix and looked set to challenge for the win only to hit the front too soon on the flame rouge and leave himself open to a better timed attack.

He cleverly refused to go into the red as the gradient was not tough enough to see him in his best light.

Encouraging signs leading to the imposing shadow of Mount Etna and her mountaintop finish on Thursday. It’s an irregular climb up a previously untried route but Pozzovivo has shown scintillating form all year and is a prime contender to claim glory as the Giro gets into the meat and drink of the grand tour.

There is always the danger a breakaway will go off and stay out but with so many of the GC contenders showing signs of not being at their peak, the chance for Pink Jersey leader Rohan Dennis to hold on to the lead or for the in form cyclists to come to the fore is more than enough to believe it will all come back together for the final climb.

Throw in Astana’s Miguel Angel Lopez’s need to reclaim time and the bonus seconds for a top three finish are a tantalizing prospect.

We fully expect Pozzovivo to erupt on Etna in style tomorrow.

Recommendation : Domenico Pozzovivo to win stage 6, 2pts win, 14/1 bet365
