The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Meshardal, (1640 Catterick), 1pt win, 3/1 generally available
Ruth Carr’s 8yo has course form reading 42110211. He is on the same rating as when winning here last July, and after a quiet few comeback runs on the all weather, he showed hugely encouraging form when staying on nicely for a close 4th last time. The stable is buzzing now with 5 wins in the last two weeks, and all looks set for Meshardal to add to his Catterick credentials.
Italian Riviera, (1610 Catterick), 9/2: Ken Slack’s veteran looked as good as ever when racing with great promise on his comeback on the all weather recently. He has won 3 out of 6 appearances here, and unlike some of his leading rivals he is thoroughly proven at this trip. Jockey Paul Mulrennan rides this unique track well and a big run is expected.
Dream Machine, (1950 Windsor), 9/2: no surprise to see money pouring on this fella. He was consistent but a little wayward for trainer Michael Bell last year. Now he transfers to the yard of Neil Mulholland who rightfully has earned a reputation for improving new arrivals. He has every right to improve from 3 to 4, and also after receiving a wind operation.
Gossip Column, (2020 Windsor), 13/2: last week at Chester excellent trainer Ian Williams showed his ability to improve new recruits with a couple of high profile victories for horses recently acquired by owner Marwan Koukash. Gossip Column was with Charlie Hills last year and showed enough to suggest a mark of 68 is workable. The Williams effect can make the difference.
