The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Alejandro, (1610 Beverley), 1pt win, 3/1 generally available
It’s curious that this veteran of 83 races should be making only a fourth appearance at a track where his form reads 121. The last of those wins came off 86 here last May. Some poor Winter form has seen him slip back to just 83, and he looked a horse bursting back to form when a staying on 3rd at Chester last week. Well drawn in 2, and everything looks right.
Neverbeen To Paris, (1640 Beverley), 6/1: A big field 3yo handicap. Many of these are unexposed and open to improvement, but both Juneau and Harvest Day have to bring all weather form on to turf and look short enough. Breathable looks dangerous albeit drawn a fraction wide. Neverbeen To Paris could easily be a big improver for Michael Bell off the back of a gelding operation. Danny Tudhope rides this course brilliantly and is a notable jockey booking.
Contrebasse, (1710 Beverley), 3/1: Another 3yo heat, and Contrebasse is exactly the kind of improver for a longer trip that excels at this time of year. His 10th of 13 on handicap debut at Redcar recently can be substantially marked up as he had a desperate run that day. It can be dangerous to expect unlucky horses to follow up with a win, but in this case Contrebasse looks to have a lot in his favour.
Star Stream, (1820 Chepstow), 8/1: Jockey Hayley Turner marked her return to the saddle with a big winner at Ascot last weekend. She is riding for fun right now, by which definition a Tuesday evening in Chepstow has to raise an eyebrow. Two rides for Marcus Tregoning and it is Star Stream that catches the eye. He returns having missed his entire 3yo season. It’s clearly a risk to back him, but he looked a likely improver back when he was a 2yo, and this race looks weak enough. Market confidence would be a welcome sign.
