The European Tour holds its flagship event this week, with Wentworth hosting the BMW PGA Championship.
The West Course at Wentworth has held this event since 1984, but has undergone several changes over the last few years, including adding over 300 yards. It now plays as a par 72, measuring well over 7,200 yards.
That said, the course now lends itself to those who can hit quality second shots rather than length off the tee.
Favourite for this event, starting Thursday, is Rory McIlroy, and although the Northern Irish star has won here before (2014), his last four outings at this course reads MC, MC, 1, MC. We’re not prepared to take 8/1 given this.
Instead we’re going to side with Francesco Molinari, who finished second here last year. The Italian has been playing a lot in the US, and playing well. He is accurate off the tee and his irons are impressive, allowing us to take a punt on a short price.
Our second pick is another player who relies more on accuracy than length, Alexander Bjork. The Swede finished 14th here last year, closing with a 66, and won on a tree-lined course in China just a month ago.
Molinari to win, 1 pt, at 22/1, Betfair Sportsbook
Bjork 0.5 pts each way at 66/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, BetFred
