The PGA Tour stays in Texas this week, with the Colonial Country Club hosting the Fort Worth Invitational.
The field is a strong one, headed up by Texas resident, tournament favourite and 2016 winner Jordan Speith. The American star has a good record around this course, he was also runner up last year and in 2015. But we still have too many doubts about his putting to take 7/1.
Instead, we’ll turn to the second favourite, Jon Rahm. The Spaniard arrived on the PGA Tour like a whirlwind last year, playing unbelievably well despite seeing many of these famed courses for the first time. This season he gets to go to work on courses he has now played, which can only help. He finished joint runner up here last season, and we’ll take him to go one better.
The Colonial course is very tight, with one of the key stats to traditionally look at being tee to green. Spieth leads that particular stat this season, but we have already expressed our concerns with his putting. Next on the list is Patrick Cantlay, and he becomes our second selection.
For those who like a real speculative punt – Sean O’Hair finished joint second here last year and has a good record in Texas, his home state. At around 125/1, you could do worse!
Rahm to win, 1 pt, at 14/1, bet365
Cantlay 0.5 pts each way at 28/1, 1/4 the odds for first five places, bet365
