The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Pastoral Player, (1435 Goodwood), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
This old codger loves it round Goodwood’s idiosyncratic 7f and ran a blinder here on seasonal debut and now runs off the mark as when just touched off in this event last year. As an 11yo he should be years past his best, but trainer Hughie Morrison is one of the best at extending shelf lives, and this is likely to have been the target since last year,
Bacacarat, (1640 Haydock), 5/1: wasn’t impressing too much until taking a leap forward in a truly run handicap at Ascot last time. That is fantastic form, and with front runner Knighted in opposition he should again get the strong pace he needs. Ascot 6th Bombastic looks the biggest danger.
Pentland Hills, (1745 Haydock), 6/1: a 3yo handicap at this trip is sure to be stacked with improvers. Some have shown up their hands with good recent runs, but we like Pentland Hills who should really improve for distance on breeding. He might have shown that in a decent Yarmouth race on reappearance but for some bad interference. He can deliver now on what he hinted at then.
Savannah Moon, (2030 Pontefract), 7/2: this 4yo filly improved again on seasonal debut when running away with a recent course and distance event. A 5lb rise seems generous given the ease of her win, whilst the opposition here looks a bit threadbare.
