Saturday Yankee: All aboard the Jumbo jet…

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY:  Major Jumbo, (1540 York), 2pts win, 8/1 generally available

This progressive sprinter was narrowly denied a hat-trick when losing out by two necks to El Astronaute here last week.  The winner reopposes, but not only does the Major get a weight pull, but this time he is drawn to slipstream his rival and with rain forecast to take the sting from the ground it is Major Jumbo who can prove the stronger.  Edward Lewis remains one to keep an eye on if it gets very soft, but the Epsom Dash next weekend remains the ideal target for him.

Byron Flyer, (1415 Haydock), 3/1:  we have profited from the flying form of the Ian Williams stable and this stayer can keep that sequence going.  He looked very unlucky not to go close to winning when stopped in his run at Chester last time and has the irresistible force of De Sousa to kick him home here.

Society Power, (1430 Goodwood), 9/2: William Haggas has his horses in good form and this one continued a winning streak under a confident ride at Ascot last time.  He has been drawn kindly in stall 2, although the shortest route is also prone to traffic trouble.  Thankfully there looks plenty of pace on here, and that should stretch the field enough for jockey Atzeni to plot a profitable route.

Qaysar, (1450 Haydock), 11/2:  Richard Hannon’s 3yo continues to improve and was given a confident Dettori ride to win tidily at Newbury.  Frankie again gets the leg up and looks nicely drawn, and there is still enough juice in the handicap mark for a horse who looks likely to end up at Group level. Highland Reel is in our notebook, but he’s drawn in the car park so will stay under watching brief.
