Oaks day at Epsom, but a tricky looking card. We’re not putting one up for the big race, so often the Oaks itself is the first real middle distance filly formline, if you twisted our arm we might tentatively suggest Forever Together.
The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Eeh Bah Gum, (1500 Catterick), 2pts win, 11/8 generally available
It’s very tempting to head to today’s feature Epsom meeting for the nap, but we just can’t ignore the flying Eeh Bah Gum. He made all in impressive fashion to land our nap as recently as Wednesday and turns out quickly at Catterick under an inadequate penalty of 6lbs. Drawn in stall 1 he is perfectly positioned to make all again and can continue his red hot form.
King’s Pavilion, (1435 Epsom), 13/2: we are big fans of Masham Star and he will probably make us look silly by winning this- he is very well in, but an extended mile around here on soft may leave him vulnerable late on. King’s Pavilion has that crucial course form, adores soft ground, stays this trip really well, and didn’t run badly last time. Looks overpriced.
Bombero, (2015 Goodwood), 4/1: was an easy winner for us last time at Chepstow. That was nothing like as good a race as this and a 7lb rise might be tricky, but his pressing style and love of a bit of cut make this course and conditions ideal and that often means a lot more round here than a pound or two of weight.
King Crimson, (2100 Bath), 1/1: This is low grade sprinting but looks a penalty kick for the rapid King Crimson. He showed amazing speed at Ripon last time and was unlucky to be run down on the line by Dapoer Man who followed up by winning again yesterday. His early speed should carry him clear here, and on this course he can be clear and gone.
