A frustrating Derby Day saw triumph snatched from our grasp as 33/1 tip Russian Realm was just run out of it when second in the closer. Better luck today…
The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Titus Bolt, (1505 Perth), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
Jim Goldie’s 9yo was spotted travelling conspicuously well over an extra half mile here last time. He didn’t see it through then, but dropped back to 2miles, blinkers fitted and Brian Hughes on top looks a recipe to convert on the promise of that run.
Indian Temple, (1435 Perth), 3/1: been around awhile now but we know he likes these conditions as he win this race last year off an identical rating. Has been lightly raced this year, but still managed a very good 7th of 27 at Aintree and chase home the red-hot Martiloo there last time. Looks primed for his defence.
Martiloo, (1610 Perth), 7/2: hopefully Indian Temple will have boosted the Martiloo form earlier. This bang in form mare has romped home in her last two starts, she gets a weight hike and a trip into the unknown distance wise, but it is wise not to underestimate the improvement and inform mare can find. She can deny defending champion Beeves.
Enzo Barbieri, (1710 Perth), 2/1: twice places in point to points, he ran very well when headed late on by a hot favourite at Kelso on bumper debut. Jockey Brian Hughes will have learned plenty from that effort and he should have a bit too much here for a modest bunch of opponents.
