Saturday Yankee: El of a bet…

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY:  El Astronaute, (1430 Musselburgh), 2pts win, 6/1 Bet365, Boylesports

We have been this way and that on leading 5f sprint handicaps this season, and are faced with a trio of hero/villains here in El Astronaute, Line of Reason and Major Jumbo.  The swift 5f at Musselburgh, the quick ground and a favourable high draw suggest that favourite El Astronaute can confirm recent supremacy despite creeping a few more pounds up the weights.  He doesn’t have a ton in hand, but everything about this race is tailored to suit, and he is going to be extremely hard to pass once he grabs the stand side rail.

Quloob, (1540 Newmarket), 5/1:  was a hugely progressive 3yo as he stepped up in trip, finishing with a win here and a good second to a multiple subsequent winner at Nottingham.  Needs a career best here, but he likes the course and could improve again now he is a 4yo.  Is starting his season a little later than most but should be sharp enough for a valuable race.  Addicted To You won by 10 lengths last time, but a 10lb hike is challenging and he could get competition for the lead here.

Colour Contrast, (1655 Ayr), 11/2:  I know it looks like an act of madness to tip one of the most notorious maiden handicappers around.  0 from 18, and second on his last three runs, he clearly isn’t easy to win with.  But this step down to 7f looks an experiment worth chancing having shot clear at this course over a mile recently only to get caught in the shadow of the line.  Favourably drawn and may finally come good.

Knowing Glance, (1745 Haydock), 5/2:  was a really good winner at Carlisle last time having met trouble in running more than once.  That was an excellent seasonal debut and first run after gelding, especially given the subsequent win of second placed Weelan.  A rise of 5lbs looks pretty fair given the progressive form, and he should have a great chance of following up.
