One of the world’s great sporting fiestas is almost upon us, and it’s time to name the winner.
Lap of the Odds subscribers will have spotted from previous posts (there’ll be a summary at the end of this post) that we are keen on both Germany and Brazil reaching the final.
And of the two, we’re going to side with Brazil.
The Samba kings suffered humiliation four years ago when thrashed 7-1 by Germany in the semifinal of their own tournament.
They now enter this event with a sense of unfinished business, and have the fire power to trouble any side. Four years ago their world collapsed when star forward Neymar was injured. This time round the likes of Jesus, Firmino, Fred and Coutinho offer ample backup.
Recommendation: Brazil to win the World Cup, 1 pt, at 9/2, BetFred
Summary of other World Cup bets:
Top goalscorer
Stage of England’s elimination
Spain’s group performance
France’s hot shooter
A group of free scoring attackers
Iceland’s scoring punt
Russia’s hot shot
