The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Family Fortunes, (1530 Newbury), 1pt win, 5/1 generally available
We have been waiting for Sylvester Kirk’s Cricklewood Green to get these conditions and he is tempting at big odds, but Kirk also runs the well fancied Family Fortunes, and he left poor form behind with an outstanding effort in a strong handicap at Wetherby, any progress from that run should give him a huge chance.
Stynes, (1515 Nottingham), 10/3: it’s been 18 months since his last flat race – a win off 52. Now runs off 61, but has won four jumps races since, most recently in good style at Cartmel, that has seen his jumps rating increase by 17lbs since that last flat effort. That maths has to be treated with caution as flat and jumps form are loosely related at best but there’s enough juice in the price to reward the risk.
Mashaheer, (1610 Yarmouth), 2/1: benefitted from a classic light Haggas 2yo campaign and looked progressive when a comfortable winner at Nottingham on reappearance. Looks to be in a head to head with Gosden’s Glencadam Master, but may be the better suited to today’s conditions.
Abel Tasman, (2025 Haydock), 3/1: won very easily here last time for his in form yard. Up 6lbs but looked to have that in hand and course form here is always a big plus. A strong field means a backable price, but there is nothing here to be too scared of.
