NAP OF THE DAY: Presidential, (1715 York), 3pts win, 7/1
Roger Fell’s progressive handicapper has been in flying form this season. A couple of smooth 7f wins hinted that more may come when stepped down to 6f, and he duly obliged with a tidy Haydock win last time. A 4lb rise for that is frankly generous and he can take another step up the ladder with an easy win here.
Rio Ronaldo, (1435 Sandown), 6/1: was the winner of this last year and it seems a fast run stiff 5f like this suits his off the pace style. Gets in off a similar weight, should have the race run to suit, and looks well drawn. A repeat looks feasible.
Bambino Lola, (1535 York), 16/1: This filly showed good form as a 2yo looking at her best granted a good ground 6f. Her 7f form on two runs this year has been ok, and she did well last time in a very strong Goodwood handicap whilst hinting that a step back to 6f should suit. Obviously this is a very competitive race, but we’re amply rewarded with the odds.
Waarif, (1605 York), 8/1: a placepot certainty as he seems to hit the frame every time without scoring. This could be his day. Plenty of his main opponents have been shunted up the weights for recent wins, but Waarif’s form is as good but he has been kept on the same mark. Danny Tudhope has a nice middle draw, and the stable always do well here.
