The European golfing tour heads to Germany this week, with the Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof hosting the BMW International Open.
The conditions at this parkland continental Europe course are likely to be very different to those recently experienced at Shinnecock Hills and the US Open. With this in mind, and considering potential tiredness, we’re going to rule out favourite Tommy Fleetwood and Sergio Garcia.
Instead we’re going to side with Belgian big hitter Thomas Pieters. He has shown signs of coming back into form of late and needs to do so to earn a place in September’s Ryder Cup. Pieters was a star two years ago at Hazeltine and will be keen to play his way on to this year’s European team. He needs to start winning now the big events are here.
Our each way selection is Scott Hend. The Australian has an excellent record at the Omega European Masters held each year at Crans-Montana in Switzerland. This course looks similar and we’ll take a punt on this long hitter.
Pieters to win, 1 pt, at 25/1, SkyBet
Hend 0.5 pts each way at 80/1, 1/4 the odds for top five places, SkyBet
