NAP OF THE DAY: Dourado, (1935 Epsom), 1pt win, 3/1 William Hill
He has looked improved this season with an excellent debut second at Goodwood and a decent effort last time when ridden to get the mile. Back over 7f he has Luis Van De Torres to beat, but Dourado’s proven 2 from 2 course form is persuasive.
Five Helmets, (1500 Haydock), 7/1: This first nursery of the season could go to topweight High Horse. But we like it when a trainer targets a prior glory, and Tom Dascombe lifted this last year and sends two to defend that title. Stable jockey Richard Kingscote chooses the promising Five Helmets and he can overturn a narrow Chester verdict with Ventura Bay now on a more conventional track. He
Eeh Bah Gum, (1630 Haydock), 6/4: has won twice for us during a four win sequence. Lumped up in the weights again but this fast 5f should suit and he can win one more before the handicapper’s patience wears thin.
Tapis Libre, (1800 Epsom), 7/2: has finished 1411 in this race in the last four years for jockey Joanna Mason. Now a 10yo but ran ok last time and is 5lbs lower than when short heading Whinging Willie last year. That one reopposes on 2lbs worse terms but more importantly with a less experienced jockey.
