World Cup: Yellow for Fellaini…

We’re now at the World Cup semifinal stage, and first up are Belgium and France.

Both sides were among the pre-tournament favourites, and in a competition full of surprises they have plotted relatively serene passages to the semis.

The French squad is full of talent but was defeated in the European Championship final at home by Portugal two years ago. This will have stung, and the players will want a trophy to put this behind them.

The Belgium team must be tired of hearing about the ‘Golden Generation’. They lost in the quarterfinals of both the 2014 World Cup and the European Championship two years later – this may be their last chance.

Both teams have been full of goals in this tournament and we expect more tonight, but it’s difficult to separate them. Instead we’ll go for a score draw after 90 minutes. A score of 1-1 is around 11/2, but we’ll go for a more adventurous 2-2 at 14/1,

Our second bet involves Belgium’s Marouane Fellaini. The lanky midfielder has forced his way into the team after playing a crucial role in their comeback against Japan. His size makes him awkward for defenders but also makes it very easy for the referee to spot misdemeanours.

With bookings now wiped out, Fellaini can throw his considerable weight around in the knowledge that a yellow won’t rule him out of the final. We’ll take the 9/1 on offer that he’s the first player into the referee’s notebook.

Recommendation:

A 2-2 correct score, 1 pt, at 14/1, bet365

Fellaini is the first to be booked, 1 pt, at 9/1, bet365
