So close yesterday as clear favourite Peter Sagan registered another win with our each way pick Alejandro Valverde one spot out of the frame in fourth.
Both riders will fancy their chances again today in a finish up the short but brutal Mur De Bretagne where they were 3rd and 4th in a similar stage of the 2015 Tour.
Both look short enough at today’s prices, and indeed stage favourite Julián Alaphilippe may have stronger claims after winning the similar La Fleche Wallonne earlier this season.
The value though can still come from that 2015 Tour stage. Winner then Alexis Vulliermoz is interesting at 25/1, but we remember the sight of Ireland’s Dan Martin beating his handlebars in frustration after his late surge from the pack couldn’t quite peg back Vuillermoz and was good enough only for second.
If we remember that, you can be sure Martin does. He is a stronger rider now than then, and needs to show something after a poor team time trial has left him playing catch up. Expect a big bid for redemption.
To Win Stage 6: Dan Martin, 1pt win, 12/1 generally available
