Newmarket’s July meeting kicks off a big end of week for racing, and we head there for today’s yankee…
The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Shaheen, (1730 Newmarket), 1pt win, 7/2 generally available
This 3yo has been in flying form. A smooth traveller with an ability to quicken he has the ideal tools for this test. Jockey Atzeni is a class act, and this horse stands out a mile in a field of mostly exposed or disappointing older rivals.
First Eleven, (1350 Newmarket), 11/4: This is a revenge mission after we picked John Gosden’s progressive 3yo for a big handicap at Royal Ascot only to see a desperately unlucky run all the way up the straight rob him of likely victory. On the numbers he has to find more here, but the stable have an excellent record in this, and he can get compensation.
Buridan, (1500 Newmarket), 8/1: Most of these competed in a big recent handicap at York. Foxtrot Lady may be best of those, but in Buridan she faces a rival who is 4lbs well in based on a recent Haydock stroll, and is improving rapidly for the Hannon yard who have always thought he could be top class.
Gabr, (1645 Newmarket), 3/1: Michael Stoute’s yard are hitting top form and this horse was considered good enough to contend a Group 1 as a 2yo (5th), and agin at Ascot last time (6th). Likely to be hitting top form now and dropped in class he can show why his trainer had him flying so high.
