Today sees the penultimate game of the World Cup, the game neither of these sides wanted to play – the third/fourth playoff.
Both teams are likely to make changes to allow squad members the opportunity to play in the World Cup.
That said, the noises coming out of the Belgium camp after their defeat by France in the first semifinal were ones of anger and bemoaning an opportunity lost. The England camp seemed more satisfied with their progress, with an eye to the future.
We have already seen these two teams play in this tournament, largely reserve sides as well, and Belgium won without breaking too much sweat. We can’t think of any reason for this result to reverse. And with Belgian anger still bubbling the result could be more emphatic.
We’re going to take Belgium to win giving England a one goal start.
As far as individuals are concerned, it’s difficult to write this up before the teams are announced. However, Belgian wingback Thomas Meunier has been one of their stars. He was suspended for the semifinal and we think he’s likely to return. He won us some cash with his last minute assist in the Japan clash, and we’ll take him to do so again.
Belgium to beat England by more than one goal, 1 pt, at 3/1, Paddy Power
Meunier to assist the scoring of a goal, 1 pt, at 11/2, Paddy Power
