The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Mywayistheonlyway, (1600 Beverley), 1pt win, 5/2 generally available
Grant Tuer’s 5yo won this race last year off a mark of 72. He returns here off 74 having run two good recent races when a little unlucky here in June, and then a fair close second to an in form horse at Musselburgh. Favourite Hitman is short enough having crept back up to a stiff mark, and Mywayistheonlyway looks set to defend his title.
Pearl Noir, (1430 Beverley), 9/1: a notoriously hard horse to catch right, but capable of blasting off and making all when things stop right. That was off 55 under this claimer. Hasn’t managed an unhassled lead since off higher marks. Back off 55 here, back under this claimer, drawn to attack near the rail and may just get the clear early lead he craves.
Highly Focussed, (1500 Beverley), 5/1: arguably an even weaker race than the 1430. This gelding has at least got some scope to improve after just three turf runs. The experienced Joe Fanning rides this course well, and the form of this horse’s recent turf runs is working out very well in the context of this contest.
Kraka, (1840 Thirsk), 6/1: a bit of a punt as he has shown little so far this season, but Tom Dascombe’s 3yo steps away from his age group and into a field of exposed older horses for the first time. First time cheek pieces can help this front runner and the track suits those tactics.
