The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Almoghared, (1425 Newbury), 1pt win, 7/1 generally available
The Willie Mullins trained Stratum will be popular here after pulling too hard but still finding his way into 3rd place at Royal Ascot. However this could be a chance to take advantage of 3yos against their elders. The massive weight for age allowance means John Gosden’s Almoghared carries bottom weight despite being officially rated the second best horse in the race. Gosden rarely gets these things wrong and the booking of Atzeni is a rare outside ride but only increases confidence.
Kinks, (1540 Newbury), 6/1: This valuable sales race is bigger on numbers than class. The Mick Channon trained Kinks may have done better than his form shows having suffered in running at Sandown before staying on a bit too late in a top class event at Royal Ascot. He is the form horse in this field and could land a local success.
Atkinson Grimshaw, (1605 Ripon), 7/1: has two good seconds sandwiching a disappointing tearaway effort. Loves to front run which is a marriage made in heaven for Ripon. His apprentice jockey will need to measure the effort but he looks a decent price to make all.
Ad Libitum, (1715 Ripon), 5/2: is an in form 3yo taking on older types. Has been progressive all Summer and won here last time getting up on the line despite losing ground at the start. Only 2lbs higher is a generous assessment and he can keep up the good work here.
