The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Pearl Of The West, (1640 Curragh), 1pt win, 7/1 generally available
An interesting staying race. The O’Brien hotpot Cliffs Of Dooneen has been given a very stiff mark of 97 for winnning a modest 4 runner affair on debut. Similarly Sandymount Duke’s rating of 85 looks earned on last Summer’s good form and disregards the horse’s poor recent jumps form. The value has to be Pearl Of The West. She won a Galway festival handicap easily last Summer and is only 5lbs higher here. This longer trip promises to suit and she has two recent jump wins to her name.
Fire Fly, (1345 Curragh), 6/4: a sparse Sunday card has us looking into maiden company. That said the presence of Ryan Moore on this filly, stepping down from Group 3 back to maiden company, is highly suggestive of a routine win.
Mabs Cross, (1455), Curragh, 2/1: we can never underestimate that speedy veteran Caspian Prince, or regular blog favourite Washington DC. However the Kings Stand form of Mabs Cross is a cut above those two and she has to represent the value here. We love backing old Washington, but there will be better value days for him.
Magical, (1540 Curragh), 5/4: was one of Aidan’s best 2yo fillies last year and takes on another of those, September, here. The fact that Magical has had a run, in France, and has Ryan Moore up suggests she may be the more ready of the two to give of her best.
