The Canadian Open starts Thursday in its traditional stop the week after the Open Championship.
The bookies’ favourite is world no. 1 Dustin Johnson, playing at the Glen Abbey course that favours power hitting. If you fancied him last week at a tough Carnoustie course against the world’s elite at 12/1 then today’s 6/1 probably offers value. But we’ll avoid.
Instead we’ll try Charley Hoffman. The American has already shown his liking for this course, losing in a playoff last year. Hoffman played well at Carnoustie last week, finishing in the top 20, but was not sufficiently in the heat of battle to be weary this week.
Our second selection is Bubba Watson. The Floridian is one of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour but is very choosy about the courses he performs well on. He missed the cut at Carnoustie but has already won three times this year. He has also finished runner up at this event in the past, so we’ll give him a chance.
Hoffman to win, 1 pt, at 25/1, widely available
Watson to win, 1 pt, at 20/1, widely available
