NAP OF THE DAY: Pentland Hills, (1430 Pontefract), 1pt win, 5/2 generally available
One of only two 3yos in the race against mostly exposed older sorts. 3yo filly Sempre Presto could be a danger, but fellow youngster Pentland Hills should have all the answers. He has been a fine runner up the last twice and gets the ever-driven De Sousa on board to ensure third time lucky.
Neverbeen To Paris, (1500 Pontefract), 8/1: landed a good gamble for us first time out when passing the whole field to win at Beverley. Four subsequent defeats represent a disappointment, and it may be that he won’t deliver on that promise. That said he has been plagued by small fields and slow pacing. He has a bigger field here and favourite Michele Strogoff likely to set a strong pace. Again worth trusting the 3yo.
Mr Wagyu, (1605 Pontefract) 7/2: a bang in form 3yo sprinter taking on his elders. Wagyu has won 4 of his last 6 races going up a very modest 13lbs in the process. These younger horses can progress well ahead of the handicapper and Mr Wagyu can keep improving.
Scoundrel, (1710 Pontefract), 10/1: keeping with the theme of younger challengers, Scoundrel looks the most likely 3yo in Ponty’s closer, He won well at Musselburgh and subsequent efforts have been solid, We’re getting a big price to compensate for a supposedly lethal wide draw.
