Saturday Yankee: Follow the Lady…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Foxtrot Lady (1530 Goodwood), 2pts win, 6/1 generally available

The Stewards Cup is one of the season’s great cavalry charges, as such it is potentially dangerous weighing in on the favourite.  But in a race where it pays to race handily, the well treated and pacy Foxtrot Lady looks an ideal type for the race.  A rapidly improving 3yo filly she is a handicapper’s nightmare, and could easily make even her favourite odds looks generous.

Sir Chauvelin, (1425 Goodwood), 14/1:  an obvious case can be made for warm favourite Walton Street after a third at Ascot last time.  But the second that day wa Sir Chauvelin after a troubled run and he opposes just a pound worse off. The price discrepancy may have to do with Sir Chauvelin’s busy three runs since.  They may not have been impressive but he was placed in The Northumberland Plate, couldn’t go the pace in the too short Magnet Cup, and didn’t have the race run to suit last time.  This looks more in his sweet spot and he looks too big in the market.

Beau Satchel, (1535 Galway), 8/1:  we tipped this course veteran earlier in the week when a slightly disappointing 4th to Truffles.  He has that horse to beat here but has a much kinder draw (stall 1 vs 16).   He battled on having not travelled too sweetly here last time.  If he can jump and utilise his good position to travel just a wee bit better then we know these conditions fit like a glove.

Shanning, (1645 Galway), 9/2:  This valuable handicap has attracted a quality field.  As ever Mullins holds the key, and his Uradel attempts a follow up win after success on the flat earlier in the week.  He must have a chance, but Ruby rides the unbeaten mare Shanning.  It’s been 9 months since she won here, but Willie can produce them ready to go, and a handicap mark of 126 could be under by around 20lbs.
