US PGA Championship: Sweet tunes from DJ…

Thursday sees the start of the last golfing major of the year, the US PGA Championship. This year, for the 100th edition of this tournament, we head to Bellerive Country Club just outside St. Louis in Missouri.

Justin Thomas is the defending champion after being triumphant last year at Quail Hollow. Thomas arrives bang in form after winning the latest WGC tournament on Sunday. However, while you get a price well into the 20s last week, this week mid-teens is all that’s available and as much as we like the golfer (after all we were on him last week), we’ll pass.

Instead, we’ll head straight to the top of the market and back the world no. 1 Dustin Johnson. DJ went off a very short price last week after winning in Canada the week before. Now you can get 10/1, 2-3 points better, for taking on largely the same players. He finished like a train on Sunday, and on a course which offers a fairly typical PGA setup we’ll confidently take the best the PGA can offer.

Our second selection is Webb Simpson. This straight hitter has finished 20th, 10th and 12th in the three majors so far and is probably best suited to this one. He has already won a major, the 2012 US Open, but crucially has also shown his class this season in winning the Players Championship.

Good luck, all.

Recommendations:

Johnson to win, 2 points, at 10/1, BetFred

Simpson 0.5 points each way, at 60/1, 1/5 the odds for the first eight places, bet365
