Premier League: Great Dane

It’s the first Saturday of the new season, and the game that leads the day off sees Tottenham traveling north to take on Newcastle.

Both teams have had quiet summers as far as transfers are concerned, much to the annoyance of their respective fans. That said, the Spurs management could claim to have less to fix as they did qualify again for the Champions League last season by finishing in the top four.

However, that has to be balanced with the number of players Spurs contributed to the latter stages of the World Cup and thus whether they will be available to play today.

It’s fair to say that these potential absentees may mean this game represents the best chance Newcastle have of beating Spurs, but we think the London side will still have too much. Christian Eriksen starred in the World Cup but the Dane had to leave that scene earlier than most of the Tottenham stars. We’ll take him to shine today and win the man of the match award.

Recommendation: Eriksen to win man of the match, 1 pt, at 5/1, Paddy Power
