European Golf: Magic Marcus…

The European Tour heads to Scandinavia this week for the Nordea Masters, and in particular to Gothenburg with Hills Golf Club hosting for the first time.

Although Italian Renato Paratore returns as the defending champion, after securing his first Tour win last year, we usually look to home players for this event. Swedes have won this on seven occasions, a record for the same European Tour event.

Favourite for the event is Thorbjorn Olesen, one of only two players in the world’s top 50 taking part. There’s a lot to be said in favour of Olesen – he knows the course well, he comes from a third place at Firestone and he’s very close to cementing a Ryder Cup place. But he’s a very short price and could be tired after playing on the PGA Tour for most of the last month.

Instead, we’re going to take a couple of punts further down the betting given the mediocre nature of the starting field.

Marcus Kinhult lives not too far away from the course and has played well in windy tournaments in this his second season on tour. He made the cut at the Open, and even led the driving accuracy stats. We’ll take a chance.

Finally, we have tipped Austin Connelly before, with some success. The Canadian/American finished in the top ten in this event last year, admittedly at a different course, and usually plays well in the wind. At 125/1, we’ll try again.

Recommendations:

Kinhult 0.5 pts each way at 40/1, 1/4 the odds for the first five places, SkyBet

Connelly 0.5 pts each way at 125/1, 1/5 the odds for the first six places, Paddy Power
