Tuesday Yankee: Smooth as Silk…

A nice return yesterday where, frustratingly, the Nap was the only loser in the Yankee when just failing to overhaul the leader at Ayr.

The Daily Yankee:

NAP OF THE DAY: Sharja Silk, (1645 Ffos Las), 1pt win,  9/4 generally available

One of only two 3yos in the race and has the scope to improve.  Hasn’t quite delivered on early promise yet, but has conducted his whole career at grade 1 tracks, Newbury, Ascot, Sandown and Doncaster. A trip to West Wales is a distinct change of grade and he can relish the easier company.

Pepper Street, (1545 Ffos Las), 6/1:  a middle distance handicap is usually at the mercy of lightly raced 3yos at this time of year.  Market leader Honourbound fits the bill but his US pedigree may not enjoy the cut in the ground.  We prefer the 3yo filly Pepper Street who has run well on this surface and has run ok in better races than this at Goodwood and Newmarket recently.

Forcetoreckon, (1750 Thirsk), 5/1:  a weak looking nursery may be at the mercy of a first time handicapper.  Local man Tim Easterby’s Forcetoreckon fits that bill making her nursery debut after three maiden runs.  The last of this was a decent  second at Pontefract.  A starting mark of 63 looks workable and we expect her to be well supported.

Melaniemillie, (1920 Thirsk), 5/1:  an active filly who has seen plenty of action, much of her best efforts have been here at Thirsk.  Hasn’t been at her best this season but was much better in 3rd last time and gets in here a pound lower on a lifetime low rating.  Handles soft ground, and looks set to go well in a weak race.
