NAP OF THE DAY: Lynwood Gold, (1430 Pontefract), 1pt win, 11/4 generally available
It is always worth closely checking a middle distance Mark Johnston trained 3yo handicapper at this time of the year. Lynwood Gold’s form may look unimpressive at first, but he comes to Pontefract having been highly tried at Royal Ascot, a valuable Haydock event and then Glorious Goodwood. He wasn’t able to hit those heights but his rating has dropped accordingly and he can enjoy the much shallows waters here.
Dagueneau, (1505 Pontefract), 5/4: a horse we know well and have tipped a few times, he looked very well suited by stepping up to this trip when romping home on Thursday. This quick reappearance makes sense as he’ll get a big hike for that but gets a fixed penalty here. Has course specialist Becky The Thatcher to beat, but should have enough in hand to do so.
Dance Diva, (1535 Pontefract), 6/1: has been running mostly over longer trips but has won at Listed level and got no luck in better company at Goodwood. Looks nicely drawn and should enjoy the stuff track, neither of which can be said if favourite Foxtrot Lady, who we are fans of, but who may come up short here.
Crownthorpe, (1605 Pontefract), 8/1: the outsider of five can cause an upset. Two pacesetters should make this a real test and that can set the race up for a closer. Favourite Georgian Bay tries a mile for the first time and will have his stamina tested. Completion and Crownthorpe should finish alongside on Haydock form, but Crownthorpe is twice the price yet has arguable run the better since that clash. He looks a little bit of value.
