The PGA Tour heads to the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey for the Northern Trust Open, the first event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
This is the fourth time this course has hosted the FedEx opener, and world no. 1 Dustin Johnson is the defending champion. Not overly long, but tight off the tee, precious winners have also included the likes of Hunter Mahan and Patrick Reed.
Also of note is the crowd, which can get raucous in nature as the afternoon progresses.
With all this in mind, we’re going to side with a player who is very used to a vocal crowd – Tiger Woods.
The former world no. 1 has been playing well of late, including finishing second in the US PGA and sixth in the Open Championship. If he can keep his driver in the bag and tee off with a three wood or long iron he is likely to be in contention as the rest of his game looks ok.
Our second option is a familiar tip, Webb Simpson. We selected him last week and he finished second and we’re going back again. He’s playing well, and this type of tree-lined course will suit his accuracy. Once more Webb, once more.
Woods to win, 1 pt, at 14/1, widely available
Simpson 0.5 pts each way at 33/1, 1/5 the odds for the first seven places, Corals
