Thursday Yankee: Be Firm…

Frustrating to leave 12/1 tip El Astronaute stranded as a wasted solo winner on yesterday’s Yankee.  We’ll stick to York today too…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Firmament, (1500 York), 1pt win, 15/2 generally available

David O’Meara’s hardy handicapper has been too good to get relief in the ratings and is two years from his last win.  That was however in this race, and his best run last season was undoubtedly when third in this race.  We are wary of Afaak, but can’t ignore some final softening in Firmament’s rating to 98 ( he was 96 when winning and 107 last year), and with his proven love of the track he looks to have a great chance .

Masaru, (1425 York), 5/1: first stop in any of these sales races is the Hannon yard.  They complicate things with course winner He’Zanarab under Ryan Moore, but future entries suggest the Windsor maiden winner Masaru may be the classier option.  He is also blessed with a draw that on yesterday’s evidence looks favourable.

Lah Ti Dar, (1615 York), 1/1:  was favourite for the Oaks after a smooth seasonal debut success but hasn’t been seen since after illness.  Hard to decipher the form as she was so much better than a moderate bunch, but it would be a massive disappointment if she wasn’t head and shoulders above this grade.

Move Swiftly, (1650 York), 5/2:  won with such aplomb at Goodwood after a less than perfect run it looked likely that would be the end of handicapping.  But an 8lb rise to 93 looks oddly generous and she gets in again off a mark that will probably be 10lbs below where she’s heading.
