The two favourites for this season’s Premier League title, and also early front runners, are being televised Saturday, starting with Manchester City’s trip to Wolves.
It’s difficult to see this as anything other than an away win. City have started the season with two facile wins, brushing aside both Arsenal and Huddersfield with contemptuous ease. Wolves, on the other hand, have had a tricky start to their start to their new Premier League life, drawing at home with Everton before losing at Leicester.
That said, the bookies appreciate this and you can get a hefty 12/1 for Wolves to win this home fixture.
Tempting as that price is, we’ll leave alone. Instead, in the absence of midfield star Kevin de Bruyne, we’ll take David Silva to continue his outstanding form away from home and thus clinch the man of the match award.
The late game sees Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield. The Reds are seen by many as the nearest rival to City in the title race and have started the season with a couple of victories. They will be heavily favoured to win tonight, but face a Brighton side on a high after putting Manchester United to the sword last weekend.
Liverpool haven’t had problems scoring goals in the last few years, but what makes them as potential title challengers this year is their recent defensive security. They have yet to concede this season.
However, Brighton looked threatening against United, particularly from set pieces. We looked on with interest that Shane Duffy scored against United and noted in the interview afterwards his desire for more goals. Paddy Power has a boosted price of 22/1 that the big Irish defender scores with a header. We’ll try that.
Wolves/Man City: David Silva to win man of the match, 1 pt, at 5/1, William Hill
Liverpool/Brighton: Duffy to score a header, 1 pt, at 22/1, Paddy Power
