The Daily Yankee:
NAP OF THE DAY: Gurkha Friend, (1635 Ripon), 1pt win, 9/2 generally available
Ripon is the course for front runners- particularly over longer distances, horses invariably finding it hard to overhaul leaders up the straight. Gurkha Friend is an out and out front runner who has won his last two here. The combination with the punchy style of De Sousa in the saddle is ideal, and they can prove it again here.
Han Solo Berger, (1430 Epsom), 9/2: This front running 3yo takes a drop in class having lead til late on in a decent race at Newmarket recently. This is also a track that can suit pace-setters, particularly if the rain showers create the “golden highway” up the stand side rail.
Blue De Vega, (1505 Epsom), 2/1: a very useful sprinter at his best and looked woefully unlucky when 4th behind today’s rival Pettochside in the Dash here on Derby day. This smaller field should hopefully provide fewer obstacles for Oisin Murphy, and he should be clear best unhampered.
Bid Adieu, (1650 Epsom), 9/2: tanked along in a clear lead at Brighton last time yet still managed to hold on gamely on soft ground. Has The Emperor Within for company on the front today but could benefit from settling on that one’s heels. Another who could benefit if the stand side rail becomes favoured and he can grab the lead turning in. Over to you Nicola Currie…
