NAP OF THE DAY: Zeelander, (1855 Hamilton), 1pt win, 4/1 generally available
It’s a very long way from Newmarket to Hamilton, but trainer Roger Varian and jockey Andrea Atzeni make the trek with the unlucky Zeelander. He probably deserves more than three seconds from three runs this year, and although creeping up the weights, he could have untapped potential now that he finally gets some cut in the ground. Could be a class above this field.
Swiss Pride, (1340 Sandown), 11/2: plenty of support here for Across The Sea, but she’s 6lbs up for winning an ordinary event at Ffos Las. In contrast the well drawn Swiss Pride was in much deeper waters when fourth in a big field at Glorious Goodwood, where he could have been much closer granted a clearer run. He can track the rail pace here and has a big chance.
Peachey Carnehan, (1540 Thirsk), 4/1: is 9lbs below last year’s winning mark, and has hinted at a return to form when a fair 5th at Haydock was followed up by a good 3rd here last time. That form is working out exceptionally well already, and Peachey looks set to bear fruit at last.
Dakota Gold (1645 Thirsk), 7/2: This is a hot race, but not as tough as last weekend’s prestigious Great St Wilfrid at Ripon where Dakota Gold was a superb runner up, winning his side of the draw. Looks well berthed in 13, has track form of a win and two thirds in three efforts, and looks primed to win having dropped 9lbs since the start of the season.
